March is Women’s History Month and Kutztown University has planned a variety of events to celebrate.
Women’s History Month began as a weeklong proclamation in 1980 by president Jimmy Carter. The week of March 8 was originally designated as National Women’s History Week. The weekly recognition continued until 1987, when Congress passed public law to identify the entire month of March as Women’s History Month.
Women’s History Month is not only celebrated in the United States, but also in its globally inclusive iteration, International Women’s Month, which is celebrated Monday, March 8, for this year.
The Kutztown University Women’s Center leads many of the efforts for Women’s History Month and strives to create a campus culture that supports gender equity and inclusion. Through its cultural and educational resource library and events, advocacy, prevention initiatives and leadership opportunities, it is committed to fostering an environment that is safe, supportive and empowering for all community members. Uplifting Women in the Workplace

This program is a collaboration with the Career Development Center and the Women’s Center that will explore sexism and microaggressions in the workplace. Cristina Terraces, graduate assistant in the Career Development Center, will also present how women can move up in their jobs, be successful and feel a sense of empowerment.

Women Veterans Tribute
Thursday, March 18, 11 a.m.
The KU Office of Veterans Services is hosting a virtual Women Veterans Tribute to honor the strengths and accomplishments of women veterans. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrate Small Wins.’ The virtual event takes place 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 18. This year’s guest speaker is Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Dr. Karen Archondidis, chief academic officer, Army Medical Department Noncommissioned Officer Academy, and professor of Educational Leadership, Trident University International. One Financial Services Military Scholarship will be presented to our 2021 Kutztown University scholarship recipient. Women’s Empowerment Day
Tuesday, March 30, 7-9:30 p.m.
This is a collaboration with the Multicultural Center and the Women’s Center and includes an evening of poetry and empowering activities. Location will be announced at a later date.
