2021 Virtual Theatre is in ‘Ernest’ at Albright College

Mar 03, 2021

The Albright College Domino Players will be offering several Zoom showings of their virtual “The Importance of Being Earnest,” performance, Thur., March 11 through Sat., March 13, at 8 p.m., and Sun., March 14, at 2 p.m.

This Oscar Wilde play, directed by Albright College Senior Artist in Residence and alumnus, Jeffrey Lentz ’85, features photography from Albright Professor of History, John Pankratz, Ph.D. A comedy of manners and morals, “The Importance of Being Earnest” satirically grates against the idea of a common Victorian play.

Working separately with nine different Albright actors and multiple digital arts technology platforms, Lentz has married a body of animated visuals and audio to create a captivating virtual theatre world. 1950s period costumes created during an Albright online fashion/costume construction class (led by theatre and fashion faculty member, Paula Trimpey) will be “choreographed” into a still-image collage animation.

The Domino Players is Albright College’s resident theatre company. The near century-old group has been nationally recognized for performances that span a range of classics and lesser-known works. In 2020 alone, Albright theatre was named the winner of eight national Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival awards for its celebrated production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime.”
