Auditor General DeFoor Announces Key Staff Appointments

HARRISBURG – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor Tuesday announced the appointment of several key staff members as he continues to build his department’s leadership team.

“I’m fortunate to be able to assemble a talented and dedicated team to further my goal to ensure transparency, integrity and accountability in state government,” DeFoor said.

April Hutcheson, Director of Communications – A veteran communications adviser and strategist, Hutcheson has worked in various state government and private sector roles for more than two decades. She most recently served as Director of Communications for the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Stephenson (Steve) Matthes, Esq., Chief Legal Counsel (reappointment) – Matthes has served as the department’s Chief Counsel since 2018 and had previously served as Deputy Chief Counsel starting in 2005. He worked in private practice for 13 years before joining the department.

Ashley Grimm, Esq., Director of Human Resources and Office of Budget and Financial Management – With more than 13 years of corporate, government and nonprofit experience, Grimm will begin her new role with the department in early April. She most recently served as Counsel and Director of Human Resources and Financial Management for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Hayden Rigo, Deputy Chief of Staff – Rigo most recently served as an associate with Greenlee Partners in Harrisburg. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
