Kerber ’96 MBA ’01 returns to Alvernia as AVP for Institutional Advancement

Two-time Alvernia graduate brings nearly 25 years of fundraising experience to role

READING, Pa. – Alvernia University names Meggan Kerber ’96 MBA ’01 as its new associate vice president for institutional advancement, effective immediately. The two-time Alvernia graduate brings nearly 25 years of nonprofit fundraising, marketing and special events to her new role with the university.

“In addition to Meggan’s extensive experience and expertise in fundraising and deep connections throughout the Berks County and Alvernia alumni communities, her commitment to the mission and core values of our institution are unmatched,” said Alvernia University Vice President for Institutional Advancement President Thomas C. Minick ’98 M 10. “From her time spent as an undergraduate institutional advancement work-study student to the countless hours spent in volunteer leadership roles as an alumna, Meggan has proven her dedication to providing resources that benefit both current and future generations of Alvernia students.”

Kerber comes to Alvernia after serving as the Executive Director of the Berks Arts Council, where she directed and administered all programs and operational functions, including staff supervision, fiscal and accounting responsibilities, human resources, program development and implementation, fundraising and marketing.

Before joining the Berks Arts Council, Kerber served the nonprofit community for over 20 years in nonprofit fundraising, marketing and special events. In addition, she spent several years in the corporate sector focusing on marketing for the restaurant industry and event planning. She has served in the past with the as the director of development for Bethany Children’s Home, chief development officer with Olivet Boys & Girls Club, and in positions with Girl Scouts-Great Valley, Penn State Berks and Easter Seals.

“Joining the Alvernia Advancement team is bringing my career full circle in giving back to the University that has provided the foundation for my personal and professional growth,” said Kerber. “I am looking forward to sharing our commitment to providing our students a well-rounded education through experiential learning and service to the community.”

With a passion for serving others, Kerber has also served as a Professional Fundraising Counsel within the State of Pennsylvania to provide consulting services to nonprofits in donor database management, planned giving, annual campaigns and special events. She has also served the community as a board member for Dayspring Homes, PA Americana, the Tri County Community Network, the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, John Paul II Center for Special Learning and the Berks Counseling Center. She has also served Alvernia as a member of the board of trustees, a member of the 50th Anniversary Committee and as the president of the Alumni Council.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Berks Regional Chapter has recognized Kerber for her longtime service with the renaming of the Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award to the Meggan Kerber Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award. She has also earned Alvernia’s Ellen Frei Gruber Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Distinguished Psi Chi Alumni Awards, the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce’s Rising Star Award, and the AFP Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award.

In addition to her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and MBA in Community Service and Economic Leadership from Alvernia, Kerber holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive accreditation from CFRE International.
