Berks Launchbox Offering New Design Classes in May

by Berks Launchbox

May 03, 2021

The Berks LaunchBox is offering a new 4-week class starting this week to teach the fundamentals of CAD, as well as a class on how to design and print your own stickers!

Introduction to Tinkercad

Learn the easy-to-use, web-based 3D modeling software, Tinkercad!

You will learn the first steps to building your idea into a computer aided design (CAD) that will allow you to eventually 3D print a prototype (3D printing is not part of this class). This course will begin with the basics of CAD design including:

  • Parametric Modeling Fundamentals
  • Constructive Solid Geometry Concepts
  • Geometric Construction Tools
  • Geometric Relations Fundamentals

Following each in-class session filled with hands-on examples, you will have a project to work on from home until the next class session. This class will be held in-person with small group sessions at the Berks LaunchBox. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Tinkercad is a web based, free, design tool which you can also use on your home computer to complete assignments and quickly turn your ideas into CAD models.

The cost of this program is being subsidized by the Marlin and Ginger Miller Endowment for Education, Innovation and Design Thinking made to the Berks LaunchBox.

Dates: Wednesdays, May 5 – 26, 2021: 6:30pm-8:00pm
Fee: $25

Learn to Design and Print Stickers

Tinkerers, hobbyists, small businesses – learn how to design and print a sticker with our Roland VersaSTUDIO vinyl plotter. Feel free to bring along your company logo or other small art files on a flash drive to work with.
While you are there, learn about our Makerspace!

  • See what terrific things you can create tinkering with our tools
  • Consider ideas you could prototype to start a business or add to a current business
  • Find an exciting new direction in your work or hobby

Space is limited. Attendees are spaced out with different arrival time slots so very low density. Masks must be worn and social distancing required. Choose your own time slot with a mechanical engineer to guide you.

Thursday, May 6: 6-8 p.m.

You will pick a time slot to come – you will not be there the entire time.
