Berks Service Corps 2021 Project

In response to the continuing and ever-changing COVID-19 crisis, the UWBC and WDB have come together again as sponsors of “Berks Service Corps-2021.” The 2021 project will be coordinated by the PA CareerLink® Berks County Young Adult Program service provider who will serve as the employer of record for the young adult interns. Berks Service Corps-2021 will offer two eight-week work experience opportunities for local non-profit entities to participate and serve Young Adults within Berks County. This work opportunity will be offered to eligible young adults between the ages of 18-24. Berks Service Corps-2021 seeks to provide participants with enhanced learning and community engagement through service learning, leadership, personal development, financial literacy, and positive relationships with adult role models in the community.

Prior to the start of the program, all participants will be required to complete an orientation session where they will learn their responsibilities, program protocols, payroll, etc. In addition to the work portion, participants will set goals of what they hope/expect to learn during the experience and will submit a bi-weekly assignment with their timesheet. Four weeks into their work experience, participants will be scheduled for a two-hour session (virtual or in person) to share perspectives with their peers. Upon completion of the eight-week internship, each participant will deliver a 15 minute presentation to the Workforce Development Board, members of the Youth Committee, and Young Adult Program. This presentation will cover their achievement goals, actual experience, and overall outcome of the program. The program also aims to hold a community panel of key stakeholders to provide their own experiences, and a Q/A session for the Young Adults participating.

How to decide if you want to participate:

– Did you lose volunteers due to the pandemic, and could use some extra helping hands?
– Do you have a special project that could use some additional dedication?
– Want to give back to your local community, by providing a learning experience for our Young Adult’s future?

Are you interested in participating?
