As the weather warms and individuals spend more time outside, Be Well Berks, an initiative of the Community Wellness Department at Reading Hospital, invites Berks County residents to participate in the fourth annual Berks Trail Challenge. The challenge is an opportunity for residents of our community to engage in a free form of exercise and explore the various trails and parks throughout Berks County. In 2020 a total of 635 people, ranging in age from one to 82, registered to participate in the program.

The Berks Trail Challenge started on Monday, June 7 and will continue through Friday, October 29. Participants can register at BeWellBerks.org/trail-challenge and print out a challenge card for each participant of family to record trail visits, as well as directions to each location. The challenge card lists the eight different trails with the difficulty level and terrain of each. The trails range in length from two to six miles long. Trail challenge cards must be submitted by Friday, November 5, to be entered to win a prize. 40 winners will be selected at random.

“We are happy to bring back the Berks Trail Challenge for another year,” said Desha Dickson, Associate Vice President, Community Wellness at Reading Hospital. “New this year, we’ve partnered with Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club to lead guided hikes throughout the duration of the challenge. This will provide participants an opportunity to safely explore new trails and socialize with others joining the 2021 Berks Trail Challenge.”

Participants are encouraged to take pictures of their trail outings and post them using the hashtag #BerksTrailChallenge and tagging any of the Reading Hospital – Tower Health social media platforms including Facebook at facebook.com/readinghospital; on Instagram, @readinghospital; and on Twitter at @ReadingHosp.
