by Berks County Intermediate Unit

Jun 18, 2021

The 7th Annual Core Connections to Instruction and Technology Conference was held virtually on June 15 and 16. To prepare for the event, the Core Connections Conference planning team hosted two student competitions: T-Shirt Logo Design and Making a Core Connection. Nearly 70 entries were submitted for the T-Shirt Logo Design competition, and approximately 30 video submissions were entered for the Making a Core Connection student video competition. Winners for both student competitions have been selected.

The winners of the T-Shirt Logo Design competition are:

  • 1st Place – Josie Swain, Grade 10, Berks Career & Technology Center
  • 2nd Place – Ella Pursley, Grade 9, Wilson High School
  • 3rd Place – Ava Schnoor, Grade 10, Wilson High School

Miss Swain’s design which incorporated this year’s conference theme of “Building Relationships: Teach. Learn. Lead.” has been printed on the t-shirts for this year’s conference presenters. The winners and their logo designs, along with all of this year’s t-shirt logo entries, can be viewed at: https://sites.google.com/a/berksiu.org/2017-core-connections/student-competition-t-shirt-logo-design?authuser=0.

The Making a Core Connection student video competition encouraged students to share their feelings and stories about how a special relationship with a teacher, or another adult, in their schooling experience has made a difference in their educational journey. The winners of the Making a Core Connection student video competition are:

  • 1st Place – Kelsey Hart, Grade 12, Muhlenberg High School; Honoring: School Nurses
  • 2nd Place – Sindura Sridhar, Grade 8, Wilson Southern Middle School; Honoring: Mrs. Campbell
  • 3rd Place – Camryn Caron, Grade 6, Governor Mifflin Intermediate School; Honoring: Mrs. McKay

In addition to the student competitions, the conference featured virtual videos from musicians at the Governor Mifflin and Wilson school districts.

Mrs. Carissa Noel, Program Administrator for the Berks County Intermediate Unit’s Office of Professional Development and Curriculum, shared, “the annual Core Connections to Instruction and Technology Conference was born of the idea to connect educators who desire to collaborate, network, and learn and grow together. Berks County educators build and maintain strong relationships with their students, but they are also constantly looking for new and engaging ways to welcome student expression and voice. Showcasing the incredible talents of Berks County students and their powerful stories strengthens our event and inspires our collective commitment. We are so grateful to our students and their staff advisors for partnering in these competitions.”
