Park and Recreation Month is celebrated across the nation every July. To mark the occasion, the County of Berks — in partnership with the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society — will honor the men and women who work tirelessly to provide the local and state parks and recreation programs and facilities that we enjoy every day.
The COVID-19 pandemic helped to highlight just how important local parks are to their communities. Please join the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department in celebrating Park and Recreation Professionals Day on Friday, July 16. This celebration will honor those who plan, provide, and operate our parks, trails, programs and facilities for all our citizens, and thank the essential workers who kept parks open throughout the pandemic.
“Since the pandemic, our community has rediscovered the Berks County park system,” said Cathy Wegener, Director of the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department. “We have been open for the enjoyment of people to get out into nature – as a way to reduce stress, exercise and support healthy lifestyles.”
To celebrate Park and Recreation Professionals Day and honor local parks and recreation providers, residents are encouraged to plan a visit to a local park or recreation facility on July 16. Please consider taking the time to thank a programmer, manager, maintainer, landscaper, facilitator, lifeguard, coach, event organizer, or caretaker, and let them know what parks mean to you.
