Youth have volunteered thousands of hours with Youth Volunteer Corps in Reading, PA

Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) Reading is celebrating 5 years of transformational youth volunteer projects. Over that time, more than 1,300 youth have engaged in 19,000+ hours of service to Greater Reading and Berks County.

“Our youth volunteers have accomplished so much in the last 5 years,” said Lindsay Sites, Program Director of YVC Reading. “They have had a profound impact on our community, and the act of service has also had a transformative effect on them. We have watched them care for the community, while developing life and career skills.”

Youth contribute significantly to their community and donate time to places like retirement homes, soup kitchens, animal shelters, parks and more.

YVC Reading celebrated its anniversary on August 9, 2021 by recognizing 16 Berks County students who have served more than 100 hours with the program over their YVC career. In addition, three students – Maddy Fratis from Wilson High School, Katie Schadler from Wyomissing High School, and Karleigh Patton recent graduate of Exeter High School — received the prestigious 100-In-One Award for 100 hours of YVC service in one program year. Reflecting on her year of service, Katie Schadler stated, “[Involvement in YVC] has brought me education, self-awareness, and a means to reach people.”

“Youth Volunteer Corps Reading has greatly impacted youth development and community betterment over the last 5 years,” said David Battey, founder and president of YVC Headquarters in Kansas City. “The program is a great example of the impact YVC can have in its community, and we are so proud to have them as part of the YVC family.
