NAMI Berks and Bullfrog Films present Free Film Screening of ‘Orchestrating Change’

by NAMI Berks

Sep 07, 2021

NAMI Berks County PA, with Bullfrog Films, a leading US publisher of independent films, is pleased to announce the local showing of a highly acclaimed feature documentary, Orchestrating Change.  This film tells the inspiring story of the only orchestra in the world created by and for people living with mental illness. The mission of this groundbreaking orchestra is to erase mental health stigma one concert at a time.

We are in the middle of an unprecedented mental health crisis. Studies show people too often do not seek the treatment they need for fear of being stigmatized.  NAMI Berks County PA is excited about this opportunity to reduce stigma by changing minds and hope you will partner with us by sharing Orchestrating Change event information with your members and staff and of course any donation is much appreciated.

Told through the personal stories of extraordinary musicians in their own words, this documentary about the transformative work of Me2/Orchestra challenges viewers to reassess their misconceptions about people living with mental health diagnoses. Informative, uplifting, empowering and even humorous the film reveals what living with a mental health diagnosis is really like—and how much can be achieved.

Key messages:

  • First-hand accounts from those living with mental illness that illuminate stigma and negative stereotypes portrayed by the media.
  • Reminders that mental health diagnoses do not define people, just their diseases.
  • Incentive to create a stigma-free environment through a few simple steps and intentions.
  • Insight into the impact mental illness has on the entire family – not just the patient.
  • Increased awareness that recovery is possible.

“I think we often underestimate the incredible power of the first person lived experience of recovery in the mental health field. There is strength and passion in this remarkable conductor Ronald Braunstein, in the community he built, and in this film. As a person who listens for lessons in recovery, this film was music to my ears.” —Ken Duckworth, MD, Chief Medical Officer, National Alliance on Mental Health
