Commissioners first ‘On the Road’ board meeting Sept. 16

Sep 13, 2021

Reading, PA— 9/10/2021 — The Berks County Commissioners will be kicking off their quarterly “Commissioners On The Road” board meetings next week. Instead of holding the September 16 Board of Commissioners meeting at 10 a.m. in the Berks County Services Center, the Commissioners will be traveling to the Wyomissing Public Library for a meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will also be broadcast live through Microsoft Teams and streamed to BCTV and the County’s Facebook and YouTube channels and allow for public comment in-person or virtually.

The meeting will be the start of a series of quarterly Board of Commissioners’ meetings that will be held in the evenings at various municipalities throughout the County. The Commissioners are hoping that these meetings allow for more engagement with the community, especially residents who are unable to attend the meetings at their usual time.

“Our goal is to create a way for our residents to be more actively engaged in the issues we are discussing,” said Commissioner Kevin S. Barnhardt, who proposed the idea of the quarterly meetings in May. “We want to get out into the community so that we can help the public better understand the role of county government and the many programs and services we have to offer.”

The September 16 meeting will be limited to 50 people due to COVID-19 safety precautions. Wyomissing Borough officials will start the meeting with a presentation, followed by the Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting structure. The next Commissioners On The Road meeting will be held December 16 in Muhlenberg Township.
