Kutztown University’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Women’s Center present the fifth annual Gender and Sexual Minorities Conference 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1, at the McFarland Student Union. The theme of this year’s conference is, “Well-Being. Being-Well.” The event features a keynote speaker and is open to the public.

Registration is available online through Engage.

Over the past decade, we have seen gender and sexual minority advocates work toward equity, acceptance and visibility in all areas of life. The conference taking place at Kutztown University will serve as an educational opportunity for members of the LGBT community and their allies to learn more about struggles, issues and movements toward change, while approaching aspects of wellness from the personal, to relational, to political, to organizational.

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Jon Paul Higgins, a writer and social justice educator who focuses on issues related to gender, race and media. Named to Business Equality Magazine’s “Top 40 LGBTQ Under 40” for 2020, Higgins has written for numerous media outlets including Complex Magazine, Out Magazine, Them, Essence, The Root, Blavity, MTV News and more. They have also been featured on sites like NBC News, Buzzfeed, Vox and Attn:.

Further details on Higgins and a full schedule of events can be found online. Questions can be directed to the LGBTQ+ Resource Center at 484-646-4111 or [email protected].
