Berks Alliance Spotlight on CollegeTowne and BCTV

The Berks Alliance has launched another community conversation series, our Spotlight series designed to bring focus to important projects and initiatives in our region.  We launched the program in September with a session about the new Drexel Medical School in West Reading. (You can watch the video of that program here:  https://www.berksalliance.org/community-resources/ ) Our second Spotlight will shine on Alvernia University’s CollegeTowne project and the return of BCTV to Penn Street.

Alvernia recently opened its new campus on Penn Street in downtown Reading  The facility will be home to several academic departments, including Alvernia’s new Engineering Program as well as a small business incubator, a local Latino radio station, La Mega, an ESports arena and a Starbucks.  Currently 60 students are living in the building and eating and shopping downtown.  More students to follow.  The CollegeTowne project is a statement of confidence in downtown Reading and is a vital part of the transformation of the core of the city.

CollegeTowne also brings BCTV back to Penn Street.  BCTV aims to be the “go to place” for community information.  BCTV hosts both the City of Reading and Berks County municipal access programming and provides a medium for community dialogue and educational programming.  BCTV has been a source of community focused programming since the 1970’s.
