Breast Cancer Support Services announces two new team members

West Reading – Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County is pleased to announce that Amanda Thomas and Raquel Capellan have joined the BCSS team as Administrative Assistant and Program Coordinator respectively. The Board of Directors, team members, and volunteers congratulate and welcome Amanda and Raquel to the BCSS family.

Amanda was born in New Jersey and moved to Lancaster County, PA as a child.  She graduated from Consolidated School of Business earning a Specialized Associate degree in Travel and Office Administration. In her new role, as Administrative Assistant, Amanda will provide oversight for database management, donation tracking and receipt, manage supply inventory, and act as staff liaison to the community awareness committee in addition to performing a variety of general administrative tasks. Previously, Amanda spent 18 years working as a credit specialist for a local manufacturing company.

She resides in Exeter Township with her fiancé, David and their 5 children-Makayla, Chase, Dawson, Cameron and Kennedy.  They also have a fur child named Everest.  When she’s not at one of her kids sporting events, she can be found enjoying the outdoors…hiking, biking and running are at the top of the list.

Raquel was born in New York City and moved to Reading, PA when she was eight years old. She attended the Reading School District from 3rd through 12th grades. Raquel is a graduate of Susquehanna University with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and minor is sociology. In her new role, as Program Coordinator, Raquel will oversee and coordinate support groups and programs, research and schedule presenters, coordinate program activities, train all facilitators and volunteers, perform community outreach, act as staff liaison t the program committee and identify resources, partners and collaborative initiatives.

Raquel is very passionate about cultivating strong civic engagement in the community. As a community advocate, Raquel has dedicated her time to mentoring high school students, hosting community events and strengthening relationships between individuals and organizations in Berks County. She has served multiple roles as a community volunteer and has held several positions in event management, workshop facilitation, served as an AmeriCorps VISTA and worked as a community education coordinator. In her free time, Raquel enjoys hiking, reading, and writing.

The Board of Directors and staff of BCSS congratulate Amanda and Raquel in their new roles at BCSS and look forward to working with them.
