Updated: Arrest Made, Homicide on 6th & Penn Street

UPDATED READING – November 24th: The Reading Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is releasing updated information relative to the murder of Leonard King, Jr, on Monday, November 22, 2021, in the 500 block of Penn Street.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Aeneas O’Brien. O’Brien was charged with 1st Degree Murder, 3rd Degree Murder, and related charges. At approximately 1645 hours on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, O’Brien was taken into custody without incident by members of the Reading Police Department inside 1724 North 16th Street. O’Brien was transported to Berks County Central Processing and arraigned at Reading Central Court.


READING: The Reading Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is releasing the following information relating to the Shooting Investigation that occurred on November 22, 2021:

On November 22nd at approximately 13:20 hours (1:20 pm), officers responded to the area of the 500 block of Penn Street for the report of a shooting.

The investigation determined that there was some type of altercation which led to the victim receiving multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. The victim, a 30 years old male from Exeter, was transported to Reading Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The suspect is described as an unknown male last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and grey sweat pants last seen running from the scene.
