Exeter Senior High’s Latin Club Plans Caroling & Canned Food Collection

The Exeter Township Senior High School’s Latin Club will be caroling and collecting canned goods for the Exeter Area Food Pantry (EAFP) on Saturday, December 18th from 6-8PM. The club, which consists of approximately 40 students who primarily organize food drives, was able to collect more than 40,000 food items in previous years during their holiday collections. However, Anne Thomas, advisor to the club since 2017 and Exeter Township Senior High Family & Consumer Science teacher, said that the club’s struggled to collect the same amount of food since the pandemic began, despite an increased demand:

“The Exeter AreaFood Pantry has reported an increased need in donations, which is why we’re so committed to helping the families of our community during this drive and through other collections outside of the holiday season.”

Caroling, she said, is just one of the inventive ways the club’s attempted to help the EAFP meet the increased demand for non-perishable food goods. The club also collected food at the District’s annual Safe Halloween Night held earlier this year, as well as by adding a second food drive in the spring, which Thomas said is scheduled for April 19-May 6, 2022. “We’re committed to helping the families of our community throughout the year,” she said.

During the holiday drive, students plan to carol and collect food by visiting homes around these streets near the Exeter Township Senior High from 6-8PM:

Thomas said that if people do not live near those homes and would like to donate to help the EAFP, they are welcome to drop non-perishable food items off at the high school from 7:30AM to 2:30PM.
