Community Spotlight: Introducing The Reading Science Center

by The Berks Alliance

Jan 06, 2022

In October 2020, in the midst of the Covid Pandemic, the Reading Science Center opened its doors to the public.  After several years of planning, the Science Center, located at 645 Penn Street in downtown Reading, offers over 45 interactive exhibits that allow young visitors (and their families) to have hands on experience with science and technology.

Inspired by Science Centers in Lancaster and Philadelphia, Jim Cinelli had a vision of creating a fun and educational opportunity to “learn, explore and experiment” with science.  His persistence paid off in the creation of the Reading Science Center.  Over time he recruited other volunteers, purchased and created exhibits and finally opened the center in the midst of the Covid epidemic.  In many ways the center celebrates the history and legacy of Reading and our region as a leader in manufacturing and technology.  And it offers a hands-on experience for residents of our region to fuel their interest in science and technology.

The Center is open for visitors on Saturdays from 11 AM to 5 PM and starting in January on Tuesdays from 10 to 2.  It is also available for meetings, private tours and field trips.  School groups and community organizations interested in STEM education are welcome to enjoy the center.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
