by Berks Arts

Jan 24, 2022

Berks Arts announces the 18th annual Frank Scott Memorial Art Show: The Art of Jazz. Founded during the 2005 Berks Jazz Fest, The Art of Jazz honors the legendary local jazz musician Frank Scott.

Frank Scott was a renowned saxophone player and jazz musician who gained a musical education in the Reading School District. Scott was later inducted into the Central PA Friends of Jazz Hall of Fame in 1994.

The Art of Jazz exhibits annually as a prelude to the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest and is open for artwork submissions in all media. The show features artwork representing the theme Celebrate Jazz, which expresses how jazz impacts art, music and the community through the artist’s vision.

The exhibition runs March 12 – April 13, 2022 in the Schmidt Gallery, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts (201 Washington St. Reading, PA). The show is being held as a prelude to the 31st annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest presented by Berks Arts.

All work must be hand-delivered to the Schmidt Gallery on either of the following dates:

March 3 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
March 4 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

All work must be original and made within the past 3 years. Any work previously submitted to the show will not be accepted. Additionally, all work must be suitably mounted and ready to hang, including glass protection where appropriate. Clip frames and sawtooth hangers will not be accepted. All frames must have hanging hardware, including wire and safely cushioned glass.

The entry fee is $40 for the first piece of work and an additional $5 for each piece after that (up to a total of 3 pieces). The fee is waived for high school students and younger.

Juror, Dr. Christine Isabelle Oaklander, will be awarding cash prizes and honorable mentions.

First Place – $500
Second Place – $200
Third Place – $100

There is a $100 prize dedicated to the highest placing submission for students in senior year of high school or younger.
