Statement from Mayor Eddie Morán on Departure of Managing Director

Mayor Eddie Morán offered the following statement Monday regarding the announcement of Managing Director Abe Amorós leaving the City of Reading effectively on February 11th.

Amorós accepted a position as Chief Operating Officer for the PA League of Municipalities in Harrisburg, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that advocates for Pennsylvania’s Third Class Cities, of which Reading is a member.

“For more than a year, I’ve enjoyed working with Abe as he has helped me move the City forward consistently with my top priorities of homeownership, workforce development, addressing crime and safety while strengthening our neighborhoods.

I’m pleased that he will only be one phone call away as Reading is an active member of the PML, which provides resources and training opportunities for local governments across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Having this resource available to us is reassuring as Abe has expressed his sincere interest to continue assisting the City in any way.

Frank Denbowski, my Chief of Staff, will serve in the interim as Managing Director. Frank has my full faith in confidence as his institutional knowledge of Reading, along with his strong work ethic, will serve Reading well in the short term. He and Abe will work closely until the date of departure.

I thank Abe for his service on behalf of 95,112 residents and for his part in making Reading a city on the rise.”
