Community Forum: A New Agenda for Education and the Community

by The Berks Alliance

Feb 07, 2022

A recent report commissioned by Centro Hispano and developed by the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, expressed the strong interest in the community in creating a brighter and more inclusive future.  Based on a series of interviews with a broad spectrum of city residents, the report underscored the “promising sparks of change”.  But the challenge is to engage the broader community, creating the sense of engagement and opportunity for everyone.

The primary focus of this work was on the role of education in this effort.  But, as the report suggests, education must not be seen as solely the responsibility of the local public schools, but of the entire community.

While outlining the series of conversations that are the foundation of the report, it provides a nine point strategy to help foster a more equitable and hopeful path for the youth of Reading and their families.  And it offers a path forward for strengthening our community through its educational system.

Join us for what will be a very stimulating and engaging discussion.
