Colton Brady, Age 7, from Mohnton, PA is a Raisin Loving Dude! He loves to bake with raisins, do science experiments with raisins, and even craft with raisin boxes. When his mom, Heather Brady, (Co-Founder of Do It Local Berks), saw an opportunity for kids aged 7-12 to win a spot on Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination; she knew her son would be excited.
Heather has encouraged Colton to craft with recycled materials since he was a toddler. Raisin boxes are one of their favorite items to reuse. They also love to do the Dancing Raisin Water experiment. (If you haven’t done this with your kids, you should! It’s so easy yet mind-blowing.)
Colton also loves to help his Mom with marketing ideas for their community Kid’s Book Share Boxes across Berks County as well as their Family Meal PopUp Fundraisers. “He is full of creativity and excitement for life which makes him the best brainstorming partner!” explains Heather. “In many ways, Colton is my right hand dude when it comes to growing and developing ideas for Do It Local! Sun-Maid would be really lucky to have him on their Board of Imagination.” The next project that this Mother-Son Duo is working on for Do It Local Berks is a partnership with the Children’s Home of Reading called Exploration Eats. You can bet that Colton’s love of raisins will play a major role in the program!
When asked why he would make a great asset to Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination, Colton exclaimed: “Because I like to make up games, have fun, and spread happiness and kindness!”
Colton will tell you that his Dad, Patrick Brady, Senior IT Specialist at Herbein + Company, Inc; is his go-to for cooking with raisins. “Dad and I love to watch cooking shows, especially Kids Baking Championship!” Raisins are a fun twist ingredient to our at home cooking competitions.”
Colton made it through Sun-Maid’s initial contesting rounds and is now a Finalist to earn one of the 5 spots on Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination – a part of his Sun-Maid’s marketing team for a year. Plus he will earn his school, Brecknock Elementary School, Governor Mifflin School District $5000 as well as a year’s supply of Sun-Maid snacks for all the students.
There are 11 finalists, Sun-Maid will accept the top 5. Voting is now open to the public – so it is up to Berks County to cheer our local raisin lover on to secure one of the 5 spots. Voting is done online. Everyone can vote DAILY through March 7th. All you need is an email address to vote.
