The Habitat Berks’ Birdhouse Challenge Comes Back to the DoubleTree

by Habitat for Humanity of Berks County

Mar 24, 2022

Habitat for Humanity of Berks County is pleased to announce the Birdhouse Challenge is back this year and will take place on April 19th at the DoubleTree, Reading at 5:30 p.m. The evening includes a two-hour open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres and live music by John Smith’s Voyages.

The Birdhouse Challenge features both traditional and wildly creative birdhouses from local artists, craftsmen, and first-time birdhouse builders. Businesses and individuals throughout Berks County highlight their products, services, and talents using their interpretation of the birdhouse as their guide, or by being featured in the event’s silent auction which includes a variety of products and services.

The birdhouses will be on display at the DoubleTree beginning April 11, so make plans to stop in and see the wide variety styles available. New this year are some entries by professional birdhouse builders with a nationwide audience, curated by Birdhouse Challenge Committee member, Ashley Kline.

“It’s great to see the community rally around the Birdhouse Challenge each year,” said Committee Chair, Cheryl Takach. “But it’s so important for us to remember the bigger picture, that funds raised at the Birdhouse Challenge help to make first-time homeownership affordable for some that would otherwise have difficulty purchasing their first home.”

Takach and Kline are joined by the following committee members: Susan Bear, Todd Hummel, Jenniffer Jimenez, Suzy Lysczek, Susan McFadden, Alex Smith and Brad Weisman.

“We are thankful for the committee’s dedication to our premier fundraising event,” said Executive Director, Tim Daley. “They work hard to make the evening fun and exciting. Their work is helping to make our community an even better place to live.”

Individuals interested in attending the event can register at the website, www.habitatberks.org.
