After much consideration, the Berks Book Bonanza Committee regrets to announce that there will not be a sale in 2022. The difficult decision comes after months of searching for a new sorting and sale location which did not yield any ideal locations to house Berks County’s biggest book sale. Organizers feel hopeful for a highly successful sale in 2023.

“Book Bonanza is a beloved community event and many, many people look forward to our large and wide-ranging selection,” said Judy Ellsworth, member of the Book Bonanza Executive Committee. “We have made the difficult decision that since we have not found a suitable space for a huge, successful sale, we will skip Book Bonanza 2022 and instead focus on making Book Bonanza 2023 bigger and better than ever in our new, permanent, and newly renovated space.”

The currently-homeless sale has searched far and wide across the county over the last six years after leaving the VF Outlets following their 2017 sale. Berks Book Bonanza was able to hold several sales at the Berkshire Mall during this time, including their most profitable sale to date in 2021, but members of the search committee continued to look for a more permanent placement all the while.

Ellsworth stressed that while they are unable to hold a sale in 2022, the future of Book Bonanza looks bright thanks to the generosity of the Berks County Commissioners. The sale will finally have a permanent home at the anticipated south campus location in Mohnton following upcoming renovations. The decision by the Berks County Commissioners to include Book Bonanza in their plans for the new location will assist the sale in consistently raising funds to benefit the public libraries of Berks County along with providing scholarships to women.

While there is no set date for next year’s sale and collection period, more information will be announced on the Book Bonanza website (berksbookbonanza.org) and on Facebook at the Friends of Berks County Public Libraries and AAUW Reading Branch pages.
