Building a Better Boyertown Presents Boyertown Day

UPDATE: Building a Better Boyertown has made the difficult decision to postpone the Boyertown Day event due to staffing and material shortages affecting planned participation for the casket race.  The Building a Better Boyertown 20th Anniversary Dinner will be rescheduled for later this year.

Saturday, May 21, 2022 ● 10:00am-4:00pm

Building a Better Boyertown (BaBB) is thrilled to announce its new annual event, Boyertown Day, which will take place in downtown Boyertown on the third Saturday of May. This event will celebrate everything that makes Boyertown unique – from caskets to cigars to sports! This year’s event will also commemorate BaBB’s 20th anniversary with a ticketed dinner at Brakeman’s Café.

The capstone activity will be Boyertown’s very own casket race. Boyertown Burial Casket Company opened in 1893 and was the town’s largest employer. It became the second largest casket maker in the world in the 1960s and 70s, employing over 1,000 people and producing over 60,000 caskets per year. The company closed in 1988. In addition to an exciting casket race, visitors will also find craft and food vendors in the Town Center Lot. Local businesses and nonprofits will also be offering a variety of games, crafts, and activities for children and their families to enjoy.

Additional activities celebrating Boyertown’s rich history and heritage will also be featured such as a rock-climbing wall and inflatable baseball activities. Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue will offer fire safety demonstrations commemorating the Rhoads Opera House Fire. The recently opened General Carl Spaatz National USAAF Museum will have a display highlighting their collection.

For some extra grown-up fun, guests can head over to the rail yard and visit the pop-up Speakeasy Bar, featuring roaring 20s cocktails, and the Pop-Up Cigar Lounge. Enjoy your cocktail while relaxing in the lounge with a game of dominos or take your cocktail and enjoy a stroll through the rail yard. We are excited to partner with Gilbertsville Cigar Factory to bring you this unique opportunity.

Boyertown Day is free to attend. Some activities may incur a fee. The casket race is open to the public. Registration is required and is now open. Tickets are required for the Anniversary Dinner. For more information, including a list of participating vendors, casket race registration, and anniversary dinner tickets, please visit www.boyertownpa.org or call 610-369-3054. We would like to thank this year’s Polar Bear Sponsor, Martin Stone Quarries, Inc., for their support of Boyertown Day.
