Hope Rescue Mission is proud to announce that Katherine D Alley has been chosen to lead The LightHouse Women and Children’s Shelter, effective April 11, 2022.

“We are excited to have Kate join our team; she brings a unique background of experience and education that will greatly benefit the launch and development of the LightHouse. Her passion for serving people in need and her collaborative style of working for them in our community are tremendous assets,” said Rob Turchi, Executive Director of Hope Rescue Mission.

The Hope Rescue Mission has grown over the past 128 years into the largest and most experienced men’s emergency and transitional shelter in the region, currently housing over 53% of the county’s homeless population. In Summer of 2022, the mission will begin a $5,000,000 renovation project to transform an existing thrift store, located on our 5-acre campus, into a vital new community resource called The Lighthouse Women & Children’s Shelter.

The interior of the new shelter will include 43 resident suites with private bathrooms.

“A shelter for women and children is vitally needed in our community. Our organization constantly receives phone calls from single mothers with nowhere to go when current shelters are full,” said Turchi.

Kate Alley will oversee the construction, program and staff development as well as The LightHouse’s budget and fundraising programs.  “I am so honored to be given the opportunity to lead this new and important area of service to the community for Hope Rescue Mission. I look forward to continuing the same standard of excellence for women and children that has been established by Hope Rescue Mission in over one hundred years of serving the most vulnerable men in our community,” said Alley.

“I want to build a team and programs for LightHouse that empower women to live independent lives, free to heal from the stress of surviving on the streets,” said Alley, a graduate of Boston University, where she received both her Masters Degree in Social Work and her Masters in Business Administration.

Prior to joining the Hope Rescue Mission team, Alley served as the Chief Development Officer at Opportunity House for 7 years. Born and raised in Berks County, she spent 5 years prior to her return here working at Two Ten Footwear Foundation in Boston, MA where she oversaw case management and financial support services as Program Director of Social Services and Scholarships.
