Mayor Eddie Morán issues the following statement regarding the installment of fencing on a Penn Street property:
“The City of Reading has installed temporary protective fencing in front of the 431 Penn Street property. This is being done in an abundance of caution while the City works with its engineers and code officials to promptly schedule necessary repairs to the building.
Pedestrians will experience limited access to the sidewalk, corridor, and common areas near Alvernia’s CollegeTowne campus.
The City has maintained constant communication with Alvernia throughout the process, ensuring their students, staff, and faculty are well informed.
These precautionary measures will restrict the access of the CollegeTowne campus via Court Street and will redirect all traffic through the 4th & Penn Streets while work is being completed.
We ask the general public to please avoid the active construction site and notify the City’s Citizens Service Center of any irregularity at 877-727-3234.
