by Berks Encore

Apr 19, 2022

Berks Encore will be hosting the 2022 Community Breakfast on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7:45 a.m. at the Reading Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Reading.

Community Breakfast is the annual fundraising event where Berks Encore honors an individual or company with the Leadership by Example Award.

Berks Encore is thrilled to be able to honor Scott Gruber, President, and Tompkins VIST Bank with the Leadership by Example Award for their many contributions to our community.

Scott L. Gruber is president and CEO of Tompkins VIST Bank and a member of its board of directors. In addition, he is a corporate officer of the bank’s parent company, Tompkins Financial Corporation, and a member of its executive leadership team.

Scott joined Tompkins VIST Bank in April 2013 as president and chief operating officer and was promoted to CEO in January 2014. He is responsible for the bank’s growth, operations, and administration throughout its southeastern Pennsylvania marketplace as well as fostering relationships with clients of Tompkins insurance and wealth affiliates. Scott has announced his retirement effective June 1, 2022, with plans to continue to serve on the board of directors of Tompkins Pennsylvania.

Committed to his community, Scott serves as a board member and executive committee member on the Reading Public Museum Foundation. He is a board member of the Greater Chamber Alliance and Greater Berks Development Fund; and previously served on the board and executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America Hawk Mountain Council. Scott is also a former chair for the United Way of Berks County board of directors, where he and his wife, JoAnn, successfully co-chaired the organization’s 2012 campaign.

At Tompkins VIST Bank, one of their core values is commitment to the community. It’s not just something they say, they live it and breathe it every single day. It’s the responsibility of corporations and individuals to be good community citizens and do their part to help. At Tompkins, this has always been part of their identity and they like to encourage other companies to do the same.  Overall, Tompkins Financial Corporation commits more than $1,000,000 in sponsorships and donations throughout the communities they serve. In 2019, before the pandemic, employees have volunteered more than 10,000 hours with local nonprofit organizations to make a positive impact on those who need it most.
