Reading Hospital to Host ‘Rebuilding Life After Injury’ Event

In celebration of Trauma Awareness Month in May Reading Hospital will host “Rebuilding Life After Injury” on Thursday, May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is for trauma survivors and families, first responders, healthcare professionals, and community advocates to join a discussion on rebuilding life after a traumatic injury. Guests can attend virtually or in person. The event will be held in Reading Hospital 5th Avenue Lobby, Conference Room 1.

At the event Eduardo Espiridion, MD, Chair, Department of Psychiatry, will present on acute stress response and PTSD. Guests will also hear survivor stories from Diana Pelletier and learn how she rebuilt her life after a tragic car accident. Shan’Dll Lopez, a gunshot wound survivor, will meet her care team for the first time, including first responders and staff from Reading Hospital and Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing. The event will close with a question-and-answer session including Regina Reed, MD, PhD, Tower Health Medical Group Psychiatry – West Reading; Steve Miller, mental health consultant, Diana Pelletier, and Shan’Dll Lopez.

Rosemary Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, CEN, Reading Hospital Chief Nursing Officer, who will emcee the event said, “As Berks County’s only Trauma Center, the team at Reading Hospital is proud to provide this life-saving care to our patients. We are committed to their recovery after they leave our facilities and will continue to strive to help them, and their families, as they rebuild their lives.”

  • Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group
  • First Responders Mental Health.
