On Monday, May 16, local Girl Scout Troop 1385, along with Troop Leaders Kathryn Tilley and Laura Schlegel visited members of the Reading Hospital Emergency Department (ED) team to recognize them as Hometown Heroes. The event took place in the 5th Avenue Conference Center.
At the end of each Girl Scout Cookie Season the girls of Troop 1385 select to whom they want to donate cookies as part of the national “Hometown Heroes” appreciation events. This year they selected to honor and thank the Reading Hospital ED staff who treated their Troop Leader, Mrs. Tilley, as well as recognize their ongoing efforts during COVID-19. The troop shared 84 boxes of cookies with the team at the hospital.
In October 2021 Mrs. Tilley suffered anaphylactic shock from a new medication and was taken to Reading Hospital via ambulance. “The team saved my life with their quick actions and care,” she said. “Everyone was amazing and attentive and Dr. Kramarski was so kind, patient, and told me everything the team was doing while they treated me.”
Henry Kramarski, DO, Reading Hospital Emergency Medicine physician said, “We are honored the Girl Scouts selected our team as their Hometown Heroes. We are passionate about providing emergency care to the community and are pleased we could help Ms. Tilley when she needed us. She was very ill and had an extremely low blood pressure when she arrived at the emergency department. I commend the Tilley family for calling 9-1-1 so EMS could begin treatment and alert our team of Mrs. Tilley’s symptoms. Their quick action meant we were fully prepared when Mrs. Tilley arrived.”
