LGBT Center Announces Ribbon-Cutting at New Satellite Location

The LGBT Center of Greater Reading announced it will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception at its new satellite location in Pottstown, formally opening its doors to the community at 6pm on Monday, June 6th.

“The LGBTQIA+ population is underserved and underrepresented in Montgomery County, just as in Berks County,” said Michelle Dech, Executive Director of the LGBT Center of Greater Reading. “We are so excited to formally welcome the Pottstown community to this expanded location, and we are excited for the opportunity to provide increased services to a greater number of community members.”

The new location is The LGBT Center of Greater Reading at Family by Choice (First Baptist Church), Pottstown, located at 301 King Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. A ceremony will mark the ribbon-cutting, with light refreshments to follow.

“FBC and the LGBT Center are excited to start providing free, professional counseling, a youth group, and an older adult group at our location. Actively celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community is an extension of who we are as a people of faith. Our relationship with the LGBT Center of Greater Reading affords us the opportunity to meet needs and to offer safe space to folks in Pottstown and the surrounding areas.  We at FBC understand this to be an expression of the love and welcome of God to all people,” says Rev. Dr. Marcia Bailey, pastor at First Baptist Church.

The new location brings the LGBT Center’s mission to provide services, advocacy, and support to the LGBTQ+ community in Pottstown. The Center provides support groups, free mental health counseling, life skills programming, monthly community meals, health initiatives, and food pantry services. They partner and collaborate with over 100 additional local social services, public health, family, and other organizations to provide comprehensive support to members of Pennsylvania’s LGBTQ+ community. An annual calendar of the LGBT Center of Greater Reading’s currently scheduled flagship events is available online.
