Christopher Spohn has been named Director of Project Development, Pre-College and Summer Programs at the Albright College Science Research Institute.

Spohn will be responsible for developing, managing and leading special projects, collaborative educational initiatives and program alignment for Albright Science Research Institute. In addition to the project oversight of current and new initiatives, Spohn will utilize his background in education to facilitate and teach graduate courses and professional development for educators and administrators.

“Chris’ Army command experience paired with his workforce development and K-12 education background is a powerful combination to enhance our community as a whole,” said Albright Science Research Institute founder, Adelle Schade. “Chris is well respected as a Berks County leader and will continue to propel Albright College to achieve its vision of being an equitable, sustainable and inclusive learning community and a leader in advancing lives in our dynamic world.”

Spohn joins Albright College after a 33-year career in public education. He taught secondary mathematics for 12 years, was a building principal for 17.5 years, and served as a district-level educational leader in the Hamburg Area School District for his last three years. As the Director of Project Development, Spohn worked closely with local businesses to align their needs for a highly-skilled future workforce with coursework and opportunities for students to explore and experience various careers.

In addition to his vast experience in education, Spohn’s work with Northern Berks municipalities that make up the Hamburg Area School District resulted in his appointment to the Berks County Planning Commission. He recognizes that the future growth and opportunities for maximizing the quality of life for all residents in Berks County begins with creating a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within our education system. This is also the very mission of Albright Science Research Institute.

Spohn earned his Master of Education in mathematics at DeSales University, Pennsylvania Principal Certification at Penn State University, and Pennsylvania superintendent letter of eligibility and coursework for a Ph.D. in educational leadership at Alvernia University. Chris also served as an adjunct instructor at the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

“Chris brings with him a very unique blend of experiences – his time in the Army fine-tuned his operational mindset, while his career in education has allowed him to think strategically about how to best pair student experiences with the in-demand skills of business and industry,” said Ellen Albright, director of strategic partnerships, pre-college and summer programs at the Science Research Institute. “This vast background, paired with Chris’ passion for innovation, will support the primary goal of the Science Research Institute which is to ‘uncover the genius that resides in every child.'”
