Parks Department Announces Summer 2022 Drop-In Art Program Series for Kids

Summer is the perfect time to dive into an ocean of art. Keep kids’ minds learning with 3-hour art programs that take on worldly themes and keep little hands busy. Each day includes a healthy snack, time to explore in the park, and a themed art project.

These programs are designed as drop-off programs for kids ages 7-12. Pre-registration is required.

Cost: $5 per class. Programs are held at the Berks Leisure Area, 1901 Tulpehocken Rd., Wyomissing.

June 22: 9 AM – Noon | Art Exploration: Mythical Masks & Monsters
Travel the world through the civilizations that have made masks to tell stories and document history. Using paper and other materials, kids are encouraged to create their own ‘creature’ to create a myth or story of their very own. A short hike will allow kids to collect natural materials that can be included in their masks.

July 6: 9 AM – Noon | Art Exploration: Clay Critters
Learn animal facts and figures that help to create a ceramic clay critter of your very own! Meet animal ambassadors and learn their amazing adaptations, as well as identification of local wildlife in the parks. Clay projects will be taken to be fired and will need to be picked up later.

August 10: 9 AM – Noon | Art Exploration: Nature Notes Sketchbook
Take a walk with an artist and see the forest for the trees! Kids will make a sketchbook to make their first entry as we walk and document the things we encounter in the parks.

To register, contact Lisa Gauker at 610-374-2944 ext 2611, or email [email protected]
