Calling All Young Singers: Berks Youth Chorus Summer Sing

Story written by Sam Barge

Jun 22, 2022

All young people are invited to participate in the BYC Summer Sing on July 25-29, 2022.  Summer Sing is a weeklong day camp, open to young people entering grades 3 through 7.  The camp welcomes all children—no auditions are held. BYC Summer Sing is for children who love to sing and want an engaging summer experience with other children from across the county.

Summer Sing 2022 only costs $10 to participate. The camp will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing, from Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29. Camp concludes with a Friday afternoon performance.

Summer Singers work hard and play hard, with serious music making and engaging camp activities. The curriculum includes large and small group singing, sight singing, theory, choreography and vocal technique.  Campers will also create their own songs together and learn about how they can better serve our community through their music.  The music represents a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. Each singer receives an official Summer Sing t-shirt and is provided with all music and materials.

All young people are also invited to join Berks Youth Chorus.  Founded in 1992, BYC has served thousands of young people through a premier choral program that runs September through May each year.  Members, in grades 3 through 12, receive high quality vocal instruction and perform at venues throughout Berks County.  BYC Singers enjoy the company of dozens of singers while performing and building teamwork skills.  They also receive leadership opportunities and give back to the community through the Chorus For Causes program.

All BYC Singers must participate in their school music programs in order to join Berks Youth Chorus.  Berks Youth Chorus is a proud partner of school districts across Berks County and aims to enrich the musical education its singers receive from every teacher in their lives.

Members of the BYC Choristers (grades 3-4) and BYC Chorale (grades 5-7) also attend Summer Sing to prepare for the upcoming year of choral singing. Summer Singers are encouraged to continue singing at school and to join BYC.  BYC MasterSingers attend a retreat on August 5-7 instead of Summer Sing.

To register for Summer Sing or BYC’s year-round programs, visit or call 610-898-7664.

The concert season is supported by the Reading Musical Foundation, the Presser Foundation, the Neag Foundation and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency.
