Learn How to Manage Your Diabetes with Penn State Extension

Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes and their families. This series will increase your knowledge of healthful food choices and diabetes management.

Class Details

Trained Penn State Extension educators will lead discussions addressing:

  • Important numbers you need to know and physical activity recommendations
  • Meal planning and carbohydrate counting
  • Healthy cooking with less fat and sodium
  • Medications, monitoring, and goal setting
  • How to eat wisely while dining out

Four consecutive classes are held with a three-month follow-up. Each class offers discussions regarding important information to help you manage your diabetes, food demonstration videos, and physical activity suggestions. In addition to program booklets, participants will receive the Dining with Diabetes cookbook and course handouts.

This program is part of a research study and participants will be asked to complete study-related materials, should they choose to participate in the study. Involvement in the study is not required to participate in the program.

Scholarships and financial aid funds may be available to qualified participants.

If you have been told that you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, you will want to attend this class!

  • Anyone with type 2 diabetes
  • Anyone with prediabetes or at risk for developing type 2 diabetes
  • Anyone who is a caregiver for someone with type 2 diabetes
  • Anyone who wants to learn more about managing and preventing type 2 diabetes
