Santander Arena and Performing Arts Center Conclude Record Setting 20th Anniversary

The ASM Global Managed Santander Arena (located at 700 Penn Street) and the Santander Performing Arts Center (located at 136 North 6th Street) concluded their 20th Anniversary Season on June 30, 2022 reporting the second best financial year in venue history.

During the 2021-2022 fiscal year (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022) the two venues produced a gross profit for the first time in four years – beating their budgeted loss for operations during 2021-2022. The Santander Arena and Santander Performing Arts Center hosted a total of 282 events combined during the 20th Anniversary with 153 events being held in the Arena and 129 events in the Theater. The venues posted recording setting numbers in multiple categories including amusement tax to the City of Reading and parking revenue produced by the Reading Parking Authority which was almost double the previous highest total set in 2017-2018.

General Manager, David Farrar, explained “Coming out of COVID we faced many challenges, and our staff met all those challenges head on. This year’s record setting results are a product of our teams’ hard work and dedication. None of this would be possible without our great promoter partners, artists, the Berks County community and beyond who have come out and supported concerts, Broadway, Reading Royals hockey games, and various events throughout the year helping us achieve these incredible milestones.”

Chairman of the Board of the BCCCA, Michael Gombar Jr. spoke to the two venues’ success during the past year saying: “We are very fortunate to have received much needed support from Berks County and the City of Reading to survive through the COVID shutdown.  Without that, we may not even be celebrating this past year’s achievements.  So, it is extra special to now announce these results and confirm that the hard work, sacrifice and assistance of all involved was worth it.  But, most of all, we are thankful for the entire Berks County community in embracing the #gotoashow experience at our 2 venues and supporting our diverse lineup of music, arts and entertainment!”

With the record setting year behind the Santander Arena and Santander Performing Arts Center the focus shifts to the future as the fall and winter season are fast approaching. The Santander Performing Arts Center recently announced its 2022-2023 Broadway Season featureing Legally Blonde, Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray and more. The Santander Arena is anticipating another large run of events this fall with Walker Hayes (limited tickets remain,) Trey Anastasio Band and Goose (SOLD OUT), Gabriel Iglesias, MercyME, the return of Jeff Dunham, and the arrival of our most requested artist of all time, Daddy Yankee in December.  “2022 started off great for our venues with a huge run of shows in August. We are excited to keep the momentum rolling in our 21st season as we continue to bring diverse, one-of-a-kind entertainment to Berks County. We have a ton of great shows already announced and more to come in the weeks ahead, so be sure to stay tuned to our socials for those exciting additions.” explained Director of Marketing Matt Christine.
