Monthly Educational Presentations Return to Berks History Center

Berks History Center (BHC) is excited to announce the return of its monthly Second Saturday Programs. The first program of Fall 2022 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. inside the BHC Museum’s Terrence E. Connor Auditorium, 940 Centre Ave., Reading, Pa., 19601.

Second Saturday programs take place on the second Saturday of every month and feature an educational presentation from renowned local historians and distinguished guest speakers. Presentation topics change each month and cover a variety of subjects, such as prominent Berks County industries, notable landmarks, famous Berks County residents, local lore, seasonal traditions, and unique events that formed the community that we call home. Examples of past presentations include First Females in Berks County, German Heritage & Heirlooms, Christmas on Penn Street, and Code Breakers: The Code Breaking Service Women of WWII.

The September 2022 Second Saturday program will be held in partnership with Muhlenberg Greene Architects, LLC, (MGA) and feature a live version of their popular game, Guess This Famous Building. Local Reading area landmarks, past and present, will be shown in photographs and hand-drawn renderings by MGA’s founder, Frederick A. Muhlenberg, FAIA. All participants are welcome to join the contest to try and guess the names of the buildings featured during the live show and compete for prizes.

“We are thrilled to be hosting Second Saturdays once again at BHC,” said Executive Director, Benjamin Neely. “This community is filled with such interesting history, and we are surrounded by outstanding storytellers who provide wonderful insight into our past. The variety of programs offered through this series is going to be exciting, and there will certainly be something of interest for everyone.”

The cost to attend Second Saturday programs is $5 for BHC members and $8 for non-members. The program fee includes admission to the BHC Museum. Fees are accepted at the door on the day of the event. Coffee, hot tea, juice, and light refreshments are made available for participants at 9:30 a.m.

Community members interested in attending the September 2022 Second Saturday program can sign up for the event by calling BHC at 610-375-4375 during their hours of operation, Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information and for a schedule of upcoming programs, please visit berkshistory.org/events.
