Reading High School Athletics Hall of Fame Festivities

The Reading High School Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome its ninth class of inductees during a halftime ceremony at the Reading High School football game against Wilson High School on Friday, September 16, 2022. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Albright Stadium.

In addition, the inductees will be celebrated during the Reading High School Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Tournament at Heidelberg Country Club on Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. Proceeds from the golf tournament provide four $1,000 awards each year to a Reading High School graduate.

The following night, Saturday, September 17, they will be formally inducted at the Reading High School Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet at 6 p.m. at Kraras Banquet Hall. Tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for students.

Meet the Reading High School Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees

Anthony “Tony” Bonanno graduated from Reading High School in 1975. Tony was recognized with Jack Flowers Memorial Award for Outstanding Senior Basketball Player by the Press Club of Reading.

Brian D’Amico graduated from Reading High School in 1986. Brian played basketball for the Red Knights. He finished his high school career with 1,359 points and was the fourth all-time scorer in school history.

Al Futrick graduated from Reading High School in 1992. In 1991, he excelled as the Red Knights quarterback and was named Offensive Player of the Year for his play, which included leading the Lancaster-Lebanon League and Berks County in every statistical passing category. He was also named 1st Team All-Lancaster-Lebanon League, 1st Team All-Berks County, and Big School Honorable Mention All-State Quarterback.

Tashema “Mookie” Hightower graduated from Reading High School in 1998. She was awarded the 1998 Jack Flowers Memorial Award for Outstanding Girls Basketball Player. Her high school career ended with an impressive 1,536 points, making her number two in Reading High School Girls Basketball history.

Jeff Law graduated from Reading High School in 1973. Wrestling at 145 pounds, Jeff was Section Champion, winner of the Phillipsburg Christmas Tournament, District III runner-up, Southeastern runner-up, and third in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Championship tournament. He finished his senior year with a record of 24-3.

Pete Mullenberg graduated from Reading High School in 1977. He played basketball from 1975-1977, anchoring one of the best frontlines in school basketball history including Steve Rossignoli and Neil Christel. Pete was instrumental in leading the team to finish third in the state and a thrilling triple overtime win against Steelton-Highspire for the District III Championship.

Bob Ruoff graduated from Reading High School in 1947. He was on the 1947 basketball team that won the Central Penn title. In addition, he won two District III doubles tennis tournaments.

Hershey Walton graduated from Reading High School in 2010. He was an outstanding offensive and defensive lineman for the Reading High School football team, a member of the country and District III championship basketball team and holds the Reading High School record for discus at 135’1” and the shot put at 45’8.5” in track & field.

Ron Zeiber graduated from Reading High School in 1961 and excelled as a three-sport athlete. In 1959, Ron was named MVP for the baseball team. In 1961, he was selected to the All-Central Penn Conference football 2nd team as a defensive end. In 1960 and 1961, as Coach Carril’s point guard, he was selected to the 2nd team All-Central Penn Conference while leading the Red Knights to Central Penn and District III Championships.
