Albright College’s Adelle Schade Earns Whitaker Center STEM Award

READING, PA – Adelle Schade, dean of pre-college and summer programs and founder of the Science Research Institute at Albright College has been named a recipient of the Whitaker Center’s Women in STEM Game Changer award. The 2022 Women in STEM awards program will be held at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, Pa., Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

The Whitaker Center recognizes women in Central Pennsylvania who have made an impact in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through the 2022 Women of Impact: Celebrating Women in STEM awards program. The Game Changer award is bestowed on a woman who has made an impact in their STEM field with an emphasis on inspiring others in the community.

Learning from a 25-year career in education and holding degrees in health and physical education (B.S.), biology education (M.Ed.), microbiology (M.S.) Adelle Schade employs a unique, student-driven model for K-12 students through the Albright College Science Research Institute. The powerful K-12 and higher education collaboration empowers students in the city of Reading and Berks County to create, innovate, explore and invent through authentic, hands-on learning experiences with leaders and professors, as well as Albright undergraduates who serve as mentors.

Her Total Experience Learning (TEL) model is designed to provide opportunities for authentic learning through experiences while improving and refining research skills, literacy, communication skills and entrepreneurial thinking.

“The TEL philosophy is anchored in providing individual student support for creative, inventive and innovative solution development that relates to current industry needs,” said Schade. “Through this development, students learn resiliency, professionalism and networking skills.”

A non-profit center for the arts, education, entertainment and cultural enrichment, the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is located in the heart of Harrisburg’s vibrant downtown.
