Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County is honored to announce that we were the beneficiary of the Breast Cancer Awareness Color Run fundraiser organized by Paul Redford, Jr. and hosted by Nemesis Fitness on Sunday, October 2nd in downtown Reading.
Nemesis Fitness was established in 2019 by a group of friends who share a passion for fitness and a desire to have fun while being healthy, building community and self-confidence, and overcoming challenges. “Cancer is a huge challenge many people in our community are impacted by, including my family. So it was important for me to find a way to direct the Nemesis energy, especially in October, towards raising awareness for breast cancer and collecting donations to help this organization provide hope and support to those fighting the disease.” ~ Paul Redford, Jr.
Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS) is a survivor driven non-profit organization that provides hope, information and emotional support to every person affected by breast cancer. BCSS offers a variety of peer to peer support groups and resources, educational programs and workshops, comfort bags, creative arts, counseling assistance, and both an email a survivor and phone line support system to local survivors. For 28 years BCSS has continues to raise 100% of our operating budget annually as all of our services and resources are provided at no charge to the survivor, their family members and caregivers.
“When Paul reached out to share his idea for the Breast Cancer Awareness Color Run we were honored to be included in the event not only as the beneficiary but also as an exhibitor. We are filled with gratitude to have had the opportunity to be part of such a fun and energetic event that truly shows what community is all about.” ~ Michele Reinert, CFRE, Executive Director, BCSS
On Sunday, October 2nd we kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month with our 7th annual Pink Passion for Fashion Show and headed right to the Color Run to get set up and ready to cheer on the participants and hand out medal as they completed the course. It was a delight to see folks of all ages with smiles from ear to ear as they lined up to start the run, despite the rain, and cheered as the cloud of pink dust from the chalk signified the start of yet another amazing event by Paul and the Nemesis Fitness team. If you have not participated in one of their Color Runs we highly recommend that you sign up for the next one!
Nemesis Fitness’s mantra is “Could. Would. Should. Did.” In honor of this partnership, I would like to say that we COULD encourage others to get a mammogram. We WOULD encourage others to do their part in bringing awareness and support to great organizations such as BCSS of Berks County. We SHOULD continue to find ways to help raise funds, and we DID bring the community together in fun and fitness to honor those who fought and continue to fight this disease.
We would like to thank the sponsors that generously supported the event, they include Trulieve, The Michael Palm Foundation, Brentwood Industries, DTLR Inc., and Melissa Jamula. A very special thank you to Paul as he set a lofty goal for this event and personally donated the difference between the sponsorships and donations to ensure that the proceeds from the event totaled $10,000 for BCSS.
