Reading Symphony Orchestra, Andrew Constantine, Conductor, and special guest Lisa Pegher, perform Holst: The Planets at the Santander Performing Arts Center.

The Reading Symphony Orchestra will be back on the stage Saturday, November 5, 2022, for a mesmerizing performance of Holst: The Planets with special guest Lisa Pegher, percussion soloist on Joseph Schwantner’s Concerto for Percussion.

Gustav Holst’s The Planets, a seven-movement orchestral suite that resulted from the composer’s fascination with astrology and the cosmos. The music depicts our solar system, with each movement titled after a planet known at the time (1914-16) along with a description of that planet’s character: “Mars, the Bringer of War;” “Venus, the Bringer of Peace;” “Mercury, the Winged Messenger;” “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity;” “Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age;” “Uranus, the Magician;” and “Neptune, the Mystic.

You will be in awe as percussion soloist Lisa Pegher commands the entire stage and an array of percussion instruments in Joseph Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto. Pegher was called “the future of percussion” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, her technique, power, and musicianship will have you talking about this evening for a long time.

“The Reading Symphony Orchestra audience will be mesmerized by the color, power, and musicianship featured on this concert,” shares David Gross, Executive Director of the RSO. “We’re looking forward to Lisa Pegher joining us as soloist with the Reading Symphony Orchestra and sharing her mastery of percussion with our patrons.”
