South Mountain YMCA Camps Announces Departure of CEO

Story written by Steve Bobick

Nov 10, 2022

The Board of Directors of the South Mountain YMCA Camps is proud to announce that our long-time CEO, Nathan Brant, has been selected to serve as the CEO of the Pennsylvania State Alliance of YMCAs.

During his 13-year tenure with our Camp, Nathan has worked to improve program quality and build relationships with our current camp families and alumni. With our volunteers and staff, Nathan has renovated or replaced 16 buildings and program spaces across the mountain. These spaces have included staff homes, Village Lodges, Rose Cottage, the new Health Center, the Dining Hall, our swimming pool, and Bynden Wood Lodge.

In 2022, Nathan led our staff team in seeking Praesidium Accreditation in child protection standards, receiving that recognition in September of this year. Additionally, with his work and the support of our county commissioners, more than $600,000 in funding was secured this year to finish Phase 2 of our Dining Hall project with construction beginning next year.

These investments in our facilities, programs, and policies serve to cap off an incredible 75-year history for Camp Conrad Weiser, Bynden Wood Day Camp, and the campers we serve.

While this appointment is a great honor for the South Mountain YMCA Camps, Nathan will be missed by our volunteers, staff, campers, and their families. The local non-profit is currently engaged with the YMCA of the USA in a CEO search process that will work to identify the best possible candidates to lead our organization into the next 75 years of camping.

We wish Nathan the best in his new position as he begins his work to serve and elevate YMCAs across the Commonwealth, and we know he’ll keep the fires burning.

The South Mountain YMCA Camps, operating as an independent YMCA Camp and Conference Center since 1983, has been providing youth recreational and educational programs for 75 years. Camp Conrad Weiser and Bynden Wood Day Camp provide the primary backdrop for all activities; however, program opportunities today stretch into areas of Outdoor Education and Environmental Education programs, curriculum training, Corporate Conferencing, kindred group retreats, Church Retreats, Parent/Child programs, and more.

The YMCA serves over 10,000 individuals annually with participants largely drawn from the local area and surrounding communities. Our summer campers come from Pennsylvania, our neighboring states, and more than a dozen other countries.
