‘Building Up’ a Collaboration between Reading Science Center, Habitat for Humanity Berks

‘Building Up’ a Collaboration between Reading Science Center, Habitat for Humanity Berks

The Reading Science Center is pleased to announce the “Building Up” fundraising campaign with Habitat for Humanity of Berks County. This is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser that will be held to the end of this year. The project is also partnered with Alvernia University Engineering Students and MG Architects to build the Ever Blockhouse, and the team is seeking public support to purchase blocks for the structure. The funds generated from this project will be invested to help Habitat Berks in building and renovating urban homes and neighborhoods and support educational opportunities through the Reading Science Center.

This one-of-a-kind partnership sets the example of how non-profits with like-minded missions are able to work together to both grow and bring awareness to each other’s mission through a shared platform. We welcome the entire Berks community to visit and share in our combined vision of building a better community for our residents.

The block house will be displayed at Alvernia University’s John R. Post Center in their downtown Reading Collegetown campus until April 30, 2023. It will then be moved to the Reading Science Center as part of their permanent exhibit collection, where children can explore the building and begin understanding the connection between “building blocks” and building homes in our community. Family and holiday packages will be sold during the end of November and throughout December. Packages include one free ticket to the Reading Science Center for every block purchased. Online sales will be available at habitatberks.org/building-up/ or you can purchase blocks in person at the Reading Science Center during operating hours.

The Reading Science Center and Habitat for Humanity of Berks County are both 501c3 nonprofit organizations. The Reading Science Center fosters the love of science through exciting and experiential STEM education for the Greater Reading community, especially our youth. Habitat for Humanity’s vision of giving a “hand up” rather than a “hand out” has helped many families in Berks County achieve their dreams of owning a home.
