ELVERSON, PA – The Twin Valley Middle School (TVMS) Select Choir Group has spent the last month rehearsing and recording an arrangement of popular country song, “Glad You Exist” by Dan + Shay. The recorded arrangement will be featured on WXTU, a Philadelphia-area country radio station, starting Monday, November 21, and will play periodically on Monday and throughout the week of Thanksgiving. Additionally, a video of the recording will be posted on the WXTU website at https://925xtu.com/.
Ms. Sarah Weaver, TVMS Select Choir Group Director, has been working with on-air personality, Jeff Kurkjian, to coordinate the Classroom Cover recording. Mr. Kurkjian shares, “I started the Classroom Cover to highlight the amazing teachers and students in music programs. I grew up in choir and theater, and it taught me so much more than singing and acting; it really made me into a well-rounded adult. I want school district leaders to see videos like this and say, ‘I’m so glad we have a program that allows kids to have this much fun in school.’ Hopefully, as we continue to create [Classroom Covers], the importance of music programs in schools is strengthened. These programs changed my life, and I know it changed a lot of other people’s lives too!”
Ms. Sarah Weaver, equally excited about the initiative, shared, “I think this is such a wonderful opportunity for our Select Choir for a number of reasons. These kids go above and beyond to be involved in music. Between auditioning and getting up early to rehearse before school once a week, their dedication to improving the choir is unbounded. They are excited to bring Twin Valley’s dedication to musical excellence to the greater community throughout this project and future outings. I am so proud of them and the positivity they are bringing to the school and our District as a whole.”
The TVMS Select Choir Group is a group of 30 6th through 8th Grade students who audition to be selected. The TVMS Select Choir is the first group in the Philadelphia area to do a Classroom Cover.
