Tower Health Adds Douglas Tieman to System Board of Directors

Tower Health announced Tuesday that Douglas Tieman joined the Tower Health Board of Directors effective November 15, 2022, for a three-year term.

Mr. Tieman has worked 40 years in the substance use disorder treatment field and currently serves as Special Advisor to the CEO and President Emeritus to the Board at Caron Treatment Centers. Prior to this role he served as President and CEO of Caron for more than 26 years. Under his leadership Caron developed a full continuum of care for substance abuse treatment for teens, young adults, adults, older adults, and their families. In addition, Caron elevated its leadership in sponsoring research in substance use disorder treatments and outcomes, advocating for ethics and standards, and participating in national conferences on substance use disorder and recovery. In 2021 Caron established the “Fran and Doug Tieman Center for Research” to conduct cutting-edge research related to the understand, prevention, and treatment of substance use disorder.

“It is an honor to have Doug join the Tower Health Board of Directors,” said P. Sue Perrotty, Tower Health President and CEO. “He is well respected both in the communities Tower Health serves and in the field of substance use disorder treatment. Having him join our team and provide his expertise will be beneficial to our patients and communities and we will be stronger for it.”

Mr. Tieman holds an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Concordia University and completed the Minnesota Management Institute at the University of Minnesota. He also received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northwood University in Midland, MI and a bachelor’s degree in Social Science Composite from Concordia University in Seward, NE.

Mr. Tieman added, “I look forward to working with the Board of Directors so we can continue to strengthen the health system and ensure our communities have access to our wonderful network of physicians and providers.”

The Tower Health Board of Directors consists of dedicated volunteers who provide community oversight to Tower Health as it fulfills its mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for the communities it serves. Additional directors who continue their service to Tower Health include Chair, Meg Mueller, Fulton Financial Corporation; Vice Chair, Jim Boscov, Chairman and CEO, Boscov’s; Barbara Arner, a retired executive; Tod Auman, business owner/investment manager; Angel Helm, retired investment banker; Chris Kraras, President and CEO, White Star Tours; Karen Rightmire, Senior Strategy Officer, The Wyomissing Foundation; William Thornton, Jr., Litigation Co-Chair & Shareholder, Stevens & Lee; and Brent Wagner, MD, Executive Director of the American Board of Radiology; C. Thomas Work, Stevens & Lee.  P. Sue Perrotty also serves on the Board ex officio.
