Berks County Public Libraries Promote Sustainable Development Goals

by Berks County Public Libraries

Jan 05, 2023

During the first quarter of 2023, public libraries in Berks County aim to build awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the small changes we can make to promote a more sustainable future.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. The purpose of the agenda and its 17 SDGs is to tackle widespread, global problems and deprivations that can only be changed through purposeful calls to action.

While numerous global agencies are striving to effect change, Berks County Public Libraries are working to build awareness and inspire individual action from within the community.

“We as individuals are part of the solution,” said Amy Resh, system administrator for Berks County Public Libraries. “Our county libraries are joining forces to remind community members that change for a better, more sustainable future begins with us.”

Library visitors can find sustainably-inspired programs and activities at various library locations along with book recommendations and a 30 Days of Sustainability activity notepad. Each notepad contains 30 different sustainable activities for participants to complete in 30 days. Any individual looking to take on the 30 Days of Sustainability challenge is eligible to earn a seed bookmark.

Additional initiative programs along with a full list of the 30 Days of Sustainability challenges is available on www.berkslibraries.org/sustainability-challenge.
