Looking for Kind Hearts to Participate in “Blessing Bag” Project

Mar 29, 2023

Pastor Yolanda Williams of ASHES TO BEAUTY (right) and Katherine Scheese of FROM THE HEART CONSIGNMENT SHOP (left) are looking forward to distributing “Blessing Bags” to many in need this Easter season.

From The Heart Consignment Shop, 4600 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, is gathering “Blessing Bags” for people in need this Easter season.  Interested members of the community are invited to participate by filling a sturdy, reusable tote bag with hygiene and nonperishable food items and dropping it off at either their boutique or home décor stores through Saturday, April 1, between 10:00 am and 5:00 p.m.  These items will then be distributed by Ashes to Beauty, a local non-profit that provides ministry, to those struggling to transform their lives for the better.

Much needed Hygiene products include tooth paste, tooth brushes, shampoos, deodorants, feminine hygiene items, body wash, lotion and chap sticks.  Food items that are easy to access and prepare but do not need refrigeration are best.  Examples include tuna bags, dried fruit and nuts, cereal, rice cakes, snack/protein bars, canned soups and stews, peanut butter, bottled water and multi-vitamins.

From The Heart has a strong purpose that goes far beyond retail services.  “It has been my vision to partner with local non-profit organizations, through consigning donated items in their name, so that I may be a continuous source of funds for their good works,” said Katherine Scheese, From The Heart Owner.  Since opening their doors in the Fall of 2014, the business has contributed over $101,000 to charities from the sale of donated items in the store.  From The Heart also organizes the “Purses with Purpose” project each Christmas season.

In addition to Ashes to Beauty, other non-profits that have benefited by the philanthropy of From The Heart include: 1 Life at a Time; Albright’s Career Closet; Community Evangelical Church, Youth Ministries; Hannah’s Hope Ministries; Hope Rescue Mission; Jubilee Ministries; Opportunity House; Park Road Presbyterian Church, Women’s Ministries and St. Vincent de Paul, Food Pantry.

Ashes to Beauty is a non-profit that was launched in 2014 by founder, Pastor Yolanda Williams.  A ministry, the organization serves a range of individuals including about 60% who are homeless.  Many are struggling with addiction and all come from different walks of life.  “I was there once,” Williams shared, “but I am here today and I don’t forget where I came from.  I really connect to those I minister to.”  For the second year in a row, Williams is very thankful for the opportunity to distribute “Blessing Bags” to help many of those her organization works with regularly.
