Conrad Weiser Announces Hits for Hope Tennis Tournament

The Conrad Weiser Hits for Hope Tennis tournament announced on Wednesday March 28th, 2023 that the 12th edition of the largest tennis tournament in PA and 3rd largest tennis tournament on the East Coast of the United States will benefit the Gootter-Jensen Foundation helping spread awareness for the importance of AEDs and sudden cardiac arrest awareness.

The announcement was timed specifically to the day that Murphy Jensen, the 1993 French Open Doubles Champion is in Washington DC on Wednesday 3/28 along with Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin speaking about the proposed AEDs Act to support lifesaving response to sudden cardiac arrest.

Jensen, a world famous grand slam champion tennis player, survived cardiac arrest 16 months ago after collapsing during an exhibition event at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado and has been an advocate for cardiac arrest awareness for the newly rebranded Gootter-Jensen Foundation. Jensen, in a taped message from Washington DC, introduced Gootter-Jensen as the 2023 charity for Hits for Hope.

“It’s an honor and privilege to team up with Grand Slam Champion Murphy Jensen and the Gootter-Jensen Foundation to use tennis as a platform to impact lives and make this world a better through the Gootter-Jensen Foundation as this years Hits for Hope charity,” said Hits for Hope Tournament Director Ryan Knarr. ”Murphy’s passion, zeal for life and infectious personality to use tennis as a way to bring people together, build awareness for the importance of AEDs and defeat sudden cardiac arrest is something that fits the core values of our festival of tennis that is Hits for Hope.”

Hits for Hope Tennis Tournament runs every day and evening June 12-18 8am-10pm.The Tournament averaged between 230-300 players each year for the last 12 years and is the largest tennis tournament in PA and third largest on the East Coast of the United States.

The marquee evening for coverage is at Hits for Hope Night of Champions Sat. June 18 at 7:00pm this includes the donation to Gootter-Jensen as part of the Gala & Awards at the Hits for Hope Night of Champions ceremony which includes the Merv Heller Memorial Scholarship and BCTA Berks County Tennis Hall of Fame induction in addition to marquee night matches.
