Berks County’s Earth Day Festival

The annual Berks County Earth Day Celebration is a family friendly event with a dedicated mission to educate the community and increase awareness on sustainability and the environment…. ranging from local to global topics and everything in between!

Saturday, April 22, 2023, from Noon to 6pm 

Reading’s City Park at 11th and Washington Streets, Reading, Pennsylvania

This year’s Berks County Earth Day Festival will kick off at 11am with a tree planting ceremony emceed by Richard Polityka, that will include a Lenape Earth Blessing by Enx Eeden.

Prior to the Earth Day Festivities, from 8am to noon, there will be a City Wide Clean Up with many volunteers to help keep our city beautiful.

There will be a wide range of activities at this year’s event. New this year is a Stage B tent featuring Native American activities with Calling Songs; Stoney Boys; Turtle Moon Flutes; and performances by the duo of Barry Lee and Barbara Christy, the originators of Spirit Wing, a six-time Native American Music Award nominee. Additionally, there will be speakers on sustainability issues throughout the day in this tent.

We will have PA Bat Rescue from 1 to 1:30 and Red Creek Wildlife Rescue from 4 to 4:45 at Stage C (Marbles area).

On the Bandshell, we have a great schedule starting with Mark James from Noon to 1pm, Kim & Paul from Vuja De from 1 to 2:30, Livin’ in the Rhythm from 2:30 to 3 and 4 to 4:30, John King Dance Band from 3 to 4, and Golden Twine from 4:30 to 6pm.

We are having a car battery collection sponsored by East Penn Manufacturing, a Food Bank collection supported by Penske who will transport the collection on their electric powered truck from City Park to Helping Harvest Food Bank. Those who donate to the Food Bank will receive a seedling or plant while supplies last.

There will be a historical tour of Reading City Park lead by Richard Polityka of the Historical Society departing from the Information Booth at 2pm.

There will be children’s activities throughout the park.

Volunteers are still needed, and can email [email protected] and give cell phone, email, hours available, and any particular interest or skill they want to utilize.
