Phi Delta Sigma Sorority at Albright to Celebrate 110th Anniversary

Phi Delta Sigma Honorary Alumni Association will celebrate their 110th anniversary with a special living history presentation on May 6th at 2pm in the South Lounge at Albright College. Spectators will be entertained with stories told by reenactors presenting themselves as Mable Woodring Eisenberger, Pearl Bowman Gantz, Frances Sampsel Schuler, Ruth Shaffer, and Grace Gobble Willaman, the five women who started Phi Delta Sigma back in 1913 on the original Albright College campus in Myerstown. The presentation will be followed by an afternoon tea for members.

Phi Delta Sigma Honorary Alumnae Sorority is believed to be one of the oldest organizations on campus. Unlike other sororities, senior pledges for Phi Delta Sigma get initiated right before graduation instead of being able to pledge throughout their four years. The sorority was created with the goal in mind to keep members connected to the college after graduation.

Over the years the sorority has supported the college by providing numerous donations to the college, scholarships to students, and by participation in college sponsored events. They also hold four member events a year as a way of reconnecting members to the college and keeping in touch. The hope is that this event will bring back some members who might not have been on campus for a while and that it will encourage members to become more active again.   Through continued engagement with our members we hope that this great organization will be around for many more years to come.
